That Special Unique Valentine Gift
Q: What are some ideas for valentine gifts will on a budget…?
A: What about a scrap book of photos of the two of you? You can see lots of ideas of things to do if you do a search for “Valentine Scrapbook” and click on Image Search. You can find lots of pretty scrap booking paper, stickers, press-on lettering, etc. at any craft store or Target.
You could also think of things you love about him and print them out on strips of paper and glue them to a plain box with decoupage.
Some other ideas for things to make:
- Make a balloon bouquet: Using transparent balloons, fill each balloon with small colorful items such as love notes, confetti, and flower petals. Blow them up and attach them together with a ribbon to create your balloon bouquet! Note: You can make confetti by using colorful paper and a hole punch. If you have a heart shaped hole punch, that is even better!
- Create a CD: Include your favorite love songs (or songs that have special meaning to the two of you) and put it in his or her car, ready to play when the engine is started.
- Photo: Get a friend to take a sexy picture of you and have it framed for your love.
- Lottery: Make a personalized scratch and win card for them. Take a heavy piece of paper and draw hearts on it. Using a permanent marker, write something you will do as a prize in each heart. Color over the top of each heart with red crayon until the crayon is really thick and you can’t see the words anymore. The rules are, only one out of three hearts can be scratched.
- Decorate the lawn: This is a really fun and unique Valentine gift the whole neighborhood will know about! Cut hearts out of sturdy paper and put the pointed end of each heart between the prongs of a plastic fork. Write messages on the hearts if you want to and stake them all over the front yard by sticking the handles of the forks into the grass.
- Reminder of your love: This gift takes a little planning but is a lot of fun. Give your valentine a card that says, “Whenever you see a pink (lavender, red, whatever color you like) ribbon, remember how much I love you.” Put the first bow on their car, backpack or bike. Then drive or walk along the route to your love’s school or work and tie big bows on random trees, stop signs, bridge overpasses, snowmen, etc. Be sure to remove them later!
- I love you pillow: On a light solid colored pillowcase write or sew a special message like, “Sweet Dreams”, “True Love” or “I love you” on one end. Using your computer, print a picture of the two of you on iron-on transfer paper and iron the transfer on the center of the pillowcase.
- Indoor picnic: Cook a nice dinner and serve it on the floor – in front of the fireplace is nice, if you have one – on a blanket. Use candles and have soft music. Some white Christmas lights make it an especially romantic celebration!

I made my hubby a scrapbook one year and called it “The Story of Us”.
I filled it with all kinds of pictures of our times together, and made sure to add lots of captions and stories about our memories.
He ABSOLUTELY LOVED the book! To this day, it’s still one of his favorites, and it’s probably one of the least expensive gifts I’ve ever given him.
