3 Unique Gift Ideas For Dad

January 14, 2012 · Posted in Father Day Gift Ideas · Comment

How is it that you can know your father so well and still have no idea what to get for him come Father’s Day? It seems fathers are always the most difficult family member to shop for, and a loving, positive holiday dedicated to the appreciation of Dad ends up being a stressful affair. Gifts such as ties and wallets are always a safe bet, but a man can only use so many! This year, switch things up for Father’s Day and surprise Dad with a more thoughtful, surprising and interesting present. Below are three ideas to inspire you and to get you thinking what your own dad will enjoy and appreciate – not to mention actually use!

bottle

A bottle

Treat your father with a fancy bottle of scotch, or set him up with a wine-tasting session if that’s more his cup of tea. Father’s Day is a holiday for showing how much you appreciate your dad and all he has done for you, and one way to do that is to facilitate a relaxing time for him. Often some good wine or whisky is all a father wants after a long day or when with friends.

Tech toys

tech toys

Most boys love toys, and it’s something they never grow out of – the interest just ‘matures’ along with them. Holidays such as Father’s Day present the perfect opportunity to get your dad something you know he wants and would love, but perhaps cannot justify buying for himself. Treat him to an iPad, a new phone, or whatever the latest tech toy is that you have seen him eyeing and playing with in the electronics store.

Days out

The most memorable gifts, more often than not, are the gifts that are not material objects, but rather activities or events. Really surprise your dad by picking out a present for him that’s adventurous and probably unlike anything he does normally. Adventure days out are adrenaline-pumping activities that you can do with your dad. Ideas include a track day in a favourite sports car, bungee jumping, jet skiing, and paragliding. Now those are definitely not gifts that will collect dust or go unused!

Buying a Golf Putter As A Gift

January 14, 2012 · Posted in Father Day Gift Ideas · Comment

You may not realize it but father’s day is just around the corner, and if your dad is anything like mine, thinking of gift ideas is next to impossible…

So what about golf? My dad likes his golf, he’s not a fanatic by any stretch, but he does like to play. So I thought this year I might actually buy him a golf club. Apparently putters a reasonably priced, so I figured one of those would go down well.

A putter is the most important piece of equipment any golfer owns, as it is the club that is used most often in a round of golf. So any golfer you know is sure to be delighted with a shiny new putter.

Of course, as a complete novice, when you walk into a golf retail store, you’ll find a confusing array of putter choices, and it can be a somewhat daunting quest to figure out which type would be best for whoever you are buying for.

The best way you can figure out what sort of a putter to buy is to pinch your dad’s old one whilst he’s not looking. Take it into a pro shop if you can and see if you can speak to a golf pro. He will be able to tell you things about the putter, such as the loft, length, weight and lots of other things that probably won’t mean a lot to you.

Have a think about whether you think your dad has improved his game lately, if he is new to the sport then it might be time to move up a level. If he has been playing a while then you might want to get a new putter which is pretty similar to the old one. Again, a pro will be able to advise you.

Buying a golf club for someone else is tricky, and it’s pretty understandable why you would not want to; but if your father is a keen golfer then he is sure to appreciate the thought, and the one thing I am sure of is that no golfer is ever unhappy to receive a brand new club!

Golf

Alternatively of course, you could just give him some money toward his next golfing holiday! See if you can find somewhere where he can play golf all day whilst the rest of the family go and enjoy the sun.

Finding Perfect Gifts for Father’s Day – Why is it so hard?

January 14, 2012 · Posted in Father Day Gift Ideas, Gift Ideas for Him, Interesting sites · Comment

I’m strolling the city streets, perusing storefront windows, scouring the internet for a gift for my dad. I have done this approximately fifteen times in my life, since around the time when my mom started stuffing a ten-dollar bill in my pocket and sending me out to fend for myself, weary of the task herself.

My dad, like most dads, is notoriously difficult to shop for. I rue the existence of both Christmas and Father’s Day for this exact reason. I have tried ties and golf shirts and cashmere socks, books on the Egyptian pharaohs, blown glass bulbs to feed water into his many withering plants. I have tried homemade cards and pancakes whipped up from scratch, and dinners on the town (he always beats me to the check).

Without fail, I receive an, “Oh, sweetie, thank you,” and a kiss on the cheek. I think he wears the socks; the cleaning lady refills the glass water-feeders.

I repeat: Why is this so hard?

Because I’ve been coming at this from the wrong angle. Like you, I’ve been hoping year after year like an insane person that I will eventually stumble across the Magical Gift He Actually Loves, perhaps in the clearance bin in the back of an obscure boutique.

I am insane for two reasons. One, it is impossible to stumble across any such gift, particularly in a boutique, particularly because of reason two. Two, my dad doesn’t want any thing.

What might my dad want?

Bring Your Dad’s Fashion Sense Up To Date This Father’s Day

May 5, 2011 · Posted in Father Day Gift Ideas, Gift Ideas for Him · Comment

Soon approaching is Father’s Day on 19th June this year and we usually end up leaving it until the last minute before looking for a present. This year, you could try and be organised and most dads are in (desperate) need of some up-to-date and current mens casual shirts.

This is a great opportunity to bring your dad up to date with a fancy new shirt or a couple of different casual shirts such as the one below.

Obviously every family is different and a new shirt just might not be quite enough. If this is the case, then maybe you could consider splashing out a bit extra and getting him a fancy new suit. You could probably stealthily check out your dad’s suits in his wardrobe and see if he is in need of a new one (I know mine is.) It’s not always easy with a suit as you may not know the correct size to get him but you can more often than not buy a gift card at a suit tailors. A fresh looking suit such as the one shown below might just be the perfect Father’s Day present.
